Saah Millimono

 Hard Times

 My clothes are in tatters
 The toes peep out of my boots;
 My life is in shambles
 And rotten as my boots.

 My stomach groans like thunder,
 Hungry man that I am,
 And nothing but a loser
 And nothing but a tramp.

 I have worked my bones to breaking point
 And have grown a hunchback;
 And have earned nothing at the end
 And everything I still lack.

 I have wandered among the shops
 Holding a begging bowl;
 They call me a robber and called the cops
 And into jail I must go.

 I have gone to the ends of the earth
 In search of better days;
 And have returned as dry as the desert
 With the heat in my face.

 But as hard as times seem,
 And not another hand will share my plight,
 My desire to survive will remain
 And forever with delight.

 And I will go from place to place
 Working harder than I ever did;
 And someday, I will find a resting place
 And live a life very splendid.

 Loneliness

 Loneliness is a
 Face without eyes
 To see your tears
 That fall like rain from the skies.

 Loneliness is a numbness
 That does not feel your sorrow
 That gathers like darkness huge
 And wide and shallow.

 Loneliness is a hollow
 World without relief
 Nor the presence of
 Friends to appease your grief.

 It is a blank space
 That stretches for miles
 A boundless desert
 That is cruel and cold without smiles.

 An Enemy Has Broader Smiles

 An enemy has broader smiles
 Than the smiles of a friend;
 But it is always the case that the smiles
 Of an enemy are the guise of a fiend.

 Another guise he has is his gifts
 Not unlike the Trojan horse
 That looked so splendid and the best of gifts,
 When in essence it was but a curse.

 Let not the enemy smile at you
 But glare at you with a hatred that’s plain;
 Let him not give his gifts to you
 Because his heart is but the heart of Cain.

    May all the smiles and gifts you receive
    Come not from the enemy,who seeks to deceive
    But from the friend whose love is true and sincere
    Who give you nothing for which to fear.

    I enjoy how your verse makes it easy to hear what is felt and feel what it is heard. Loneliness as a face without eyes to see your tears, a numbness and a blank space that stretches for mile…really captures the essence of that emotion..one I recognize all too well. Great job.

    May God establish favor on the work of your hands.
