A very accomplished and poised young woman – an emerging star! Thanks to Sea Breeze Journal for introducing her to the Liberian audience. Certain we will see more of her. She has an intriguing consciousness.

From the contributors page: Saycon Sengbloh was born in Atlanta, GA, of a Liberian father and an African American mother. She co-stars playing Sandra Isidore in FELA!, the 2010 Broadway hit production about the life of Afro-beat pioneer Fela Kuti directed by famed choreographer Bill T. Jones. Saycon previously performed on Broadway appearing as “Abe Lincoln” in the smash hit revival of HAIR!; in Elton John’s and Tim Rice’s AIDA in the title role; as the first African-American actress to perform the role of “Elphaba” in Wicked; and also in The Color Purple the musical as “Nettie”. Also a film and television actress, Saycon can be seen in American Gangster, Funny Valentines, Across the Universe, and many commercials. She filmed television pilots and appeared as “Nurse Peltzer” in an episode of Law & Order. She was featured in the February 2009 issue of Vogue Magazine and appears on the HAIR! soundtrack. Saycon began performing in plays and musicals at Tri-Cities School for Visual and Performing Arts and attended Agnes Scott College. After several productions with the Freddie Hendrick’s Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA), she played the daughter of Ann Nesby in Tyler Perry’s first musical play, I Know I’ve Been Changed. Saycon traveled with the Equity National tour of Rent as the seductive lead Mimi. She is the executive producer of the CD release “Southern Pin-Up!” which is available on CDbaby.com, Itunes, and Rhapsody. Website: http://sayconsengbloh.com/

A black diamond, shining softly, you are….
Quietly set… in the centre of an international soup of world artistry
    you glimmer…Unique-ly
The Joshua Tree has never been the same for me.
I said “The world is already yours..whoever you are
You know me not, but I say you will go beyond far”
You gazed at me with single raised brow
and spoke the words “That will do for now..”
I thought… In all my years of being Woof
I know this to be a basic truth
Never in a Tribe of Hair
Has there been one so talented or quite so Faire…
Now I see the Universal twist
You are, through and through Sidhe and a true Artist… Yay !!!

Saycon is an amazing artist. I’ve seen Fela 8 times and each time Saycon comes out as Sandra Isadore something happens. She exudes such sensuality and womaness..She is just lovely and I love her laugh!! Go Saycon!!!
